This is a complete work because these three people were completely in rhythm.Speaking of rhythm, what I love best about this book is the way the lyrical cadence of the story is perfectly matched to the pictures by a classic one-two-three beat. There are two facing pages of black and white text and pictures (the one and the two beats) followed by the double-page color spread (the third beat). This pattern is represented throughout the story. It's little wonder that children are both lulled by and glom to the heartbeat of this book.
There's not much that hasn't been said about this timeless book. All I can say is I had never heard of it until my wife got pregnant and I began looking into books for babies/toddlers. This was at the top of my list after researching, and I'm so happy to have purchased it. The art, wording, alternating black and white with color pages, and storyline are wonderful. It engages my son, he loves looking at the bunnies, and it truly is a calming book for everyone before bedtime. This was written over 60 years ago, so it makes you feel a bit like you're in a bygone era. Simplicity, values, family and education are all focused on in this book. We've been reading it weekly for the past 20 months, and will continue to do so for another 40! I highly recommend this book, along with other Margaret Wise Brown books.

These make terrific shower gifts that will far outlast any other gift and will instill the love of reading. and bonding. New MOMS read to your infants, expectant Moms, read to your fetuses. They do recognize Mom's voice. Research proves this!.PS I am doing an EDIT because of comments I read regarding this classic. Please do your research and read about the psychology of this book, its author, Margaret Wise Brown whose biography, The Great Green Room was fascinating, and treat yourself to the DVD of this. Mesmerizing and soothing. By the way, you all missed the fact that the mouse's placement "moves" on each of the "colored" pages. Engage your little ones with, "where is the mouse"? I hope you are encouraged to revisit this book. It will be time well spent and definitely worth it.
I wasn't going to buy this book for my child, assuming it was just another story for children that was popularized for no reason. However, my otherwise boisterous toddler proved that this book was worth it's weight in gold. From the first reading, she sat perfectly still, absorbing every word and picture of the book, and was completely fascinated from beginning to end. So much so, that she insists on me reading it over and over before bedtime, every night now. She seems to find something magic in the story that maybe only children can see. Indeed, this is a very special book. She particularly loves the mouse and the old lady whispering hush. I can't recommend this book enough. It is really amazing the effect it has had on my child!!!
Bought both hardcover and board book . . . hardcover version came w/outer cover, which was thin & wrinkled, pages weren't glossy (pages also thin, almost see-thru) expected better quality for price . . . board book version binding spine has gap when opening book to turn pages, illustrations and words are tiny. Kept the board book version only because though it would hold up better for 1 yr old, BUT had to order it twice because first one came scratched and top was peeling on front cover. Also, for those not familiar w/story please note that some pages are in black and white ... page where story says goodnight to mouse .. . mouse is really teeny tiny (in both hardcover/board book) ... and towards the end where story line says goodnight to turn off lights, illustrations were really dark and hard to distinguish. Could've, should've been way better.
This book is missing a page. It hoes from the firat page which is "In the great green room there was a telephone and a red baloon and a picture of... Next it should say " a cow jumoing over the moon" but instead it goes straight to "and two little kittens and a pair of kittens" totally missing thw page about the cow jumping over the moon.
I am pretty certain I ordered a new copy of this book to add to the collection I’ve started for my unborn son. This copy has worn edges and even has a personal note to somebody else’s kid written in it!
The copy I received was a board book missing the second page. It doesn't appear to have been ripped out, just forgotten during manufacturing. But it's obvious in a book everybody has memorized.
Read this to my children, gave as gifts to my grandchildren and just purchased it again for my great grandson. This is perfect for a little person who is too young for most childrens’ books. I like the way the pictures become darker as bedtime approaches. The board book can be touched by my five month old without it being harmed. I also like the fact that the central character is is bunny and culturally natural. Two of my great grandsons are mostly Scandinavian but the youngest little guy is half Hispanic/Dominican and all children can identify with a bunny.

Wilson Chacko Jacob describes how Egyptian men of a class akin to the cultural bourgeoisie (the effendiyya) struggled to escape from the long shadow cast by colonial depictions of the East as degenerate, feminine, and temporally behind an active and virile Europe. He argues that during British colonial rule (1882–1936), attempts to create a distinctively modern and Egyptian self free from the colonial gaze led to the formation of an ambivalent, performative subjectivity that he calls “effendi masculinity.” Jacob traces effendi masculinity as it took hold during the interwar years, in realms from scouting and competitive sports to sex talk and fashion, considering its gendered performativity in relation to a late-nineteenth-century British discourse on masculinity and empire and an explicitly nationalist discourse on Egyptian masculinity. He contends that as an assemblage of colonial modernity, effendi masculinity was simultaneously local and global, national and international, and particular and universal. Until recently, modern Egyptian history has not allowed for such paradoxes; instead, Egyptian modernity has been narrated in the temporal and spatial terms of a separate Western modernity.

Kevin M. Watson is the author of A Blueprint for Discipleship: Wesley's General Rules as a Guide for Christian Living and the co-author of Reclaiming the Wesleyan Tradition: John Wesley's Sermons for Today. An ordained elder in the Oklahoma Conference of The United Methodist Church, he is finishing up his PhD in the History of Christianity and Wesleyan Studies at Southern Methodist University. Being new to the Methodist faith, I found this book educational. Being old to Christianity, I found this book inspirational. Watson applies Wesley's general rules in such a way that you can easily apply those rules to life today. While not mincing words about his perception of the state of the Methodists today, Watson gives hope and understanding for the future of the Methodist faith by taking you back to the foundational principles that gave life to the Methodists. What was even more interesting is that any Christian, not just Methodists, can read this book and apply those priciples to their own lives. Wesley's general rules truly are a "blueprint for discipleship" and are not just applicable to those of one faith.
This book is wonderul! We have used it as a basic guide for a class at our church for people who want to know how to go about putting being a believer into action. It is concise, but powerful. I love this book!

It is wonderful to read a clear and concise description of the answer to the pressing need for clarification as to "how" the church can do effective discipleship. John Wesley had the answer and Kevin Watson offers a compelling reason to apply Wesley's General Rules. I recommend that every pastor who is serious about making disciples for Christ read this book!

Bought to help child that was getting behind in reading skills and she has made good progress using these lessons. She said some of the pages are ones she had at school and I like that as this means we are reinforcing skills that she is getting in classroom. She brought her grade up from a C to a B and we are now going for an A. I am not a fan of Common Core, however, that is what is being taught and the Language Arts book is helping her reading skills. I feel it is a good practice book and glad that I bought it.
Good for everyday practice. My daughter struggles with writing assignments so I bought this book. There are assignments on narratives but mostly on personal experiences, which is great in our case as that is the key area of development. But I would love to see some 'summarization' or 'write your opinion' kind of assignments as well. Or at least more of them if I missed out on noticing them. Secondly, the book has similar pattern of assignments so the kids can get used to it rather on figuring it out every time they get back to it. The smaller text with question/answer are rich in both vocabulary and information. There are exercises on grammar, punctuation, but not many on synonyms/antonyms. If I could see an example of the assignments or strategies to attempt the writings that would be very helpful. All in all, it has proved to be a good practice book for my daughter and I am planning to buy for the next grade as well.
I have used the "...4Today" series for years as homework,practice,review, and assessment. The Math4Today is especially good. This particular product uses the same stories and activities as the previous publications. It looks like what they have done is to combine many of the previous Write4Today and Read4Today activities in this one book and changed the title to "Common Core Languge Arts 4 Today." There is not that much new in this current publication. So, if you have the older versions of Read4Today and Write4today, you really don't need this "new" product. That said, this is a very good supplemental/practice book. I have found them all to be very useful for homework, review, and mini assessments.
I am a 4th/5th Grade teacher, and I love these workbooks. We use them in school for morning/bell work, homework, and reinforcement of concepts. The way the stories are broken down into passages is especially helpful to students who struggle with reading comprehension throughout long passages, and I see a marked improvement in my students after they work consistently with this workbook.
Would not recommend to homeschool users. Difficult to work with through no fault of the publisher but there are many better alternatives. My recommendation is dump common core altogether until the later grades (middle school and up at the earliest).
My tutoring service uses these as a homework assignment. We use the assesment page as a warm up and evaluation and we use the daily activities for daily homework. Takes students about 3 to 5 minutes to complete a daily task dpending on their ability to understand the question. Parents rarely need to help.
The quizzes for each week do not align with the practice students would be doing leading up to that assessment. Very disappointed by that.
I like the layout of these books. They are broken down to an entire 4 day week on one page. 4 short passages with 4 questions and a 1 page assessment test for the 5th day. I hope these are the types of questions on the new standardized test as the current FCAT test is worded in odd ways which is difficult for children whose brains are not developed yet, to understand. It will be good as extra work after school as it's short and to the point.
